Twas the night before who gives a fuck

I could really go for a V8. I know, that does sound weird, but not only is it true, but I actually did try to go for one, forgetting that I had already drank the one can I had left here at work. What brought on this sudden craving for a healthy beverage? List making. I wrote up a list this morning called "Shit That Needs to be Done Today" and so far the only thing I've accomplished is 'work on resume.' I sort of did 'honest effort at work' because I have done a few work things, but let's face it, it is the day before a three day weekend. So I thought I'd add 'cram something healthy into self' and then thought "ooh! V8! How simple." Guess it is a good thing I didn't actually write it on the list.

As I said above, I worked on my resume. Actually, I updated it and applied for another job within my company, one that would take me to the corporate side of things and find me reporting to someone in a different office. I don't think I'll be asked to transfer as the posting is listed as being for my office, but one never knows. I told J about the job last night and suggested he apply for it as well since it requires professional writing experience, of which he has oodles. It would be strange if he got the job and worked in my office, but only because Friend A is here. I think I could work in the same office as my husband/estranged husband/lover/adulterer/secret agent/whatever, just fine. There had been a posting for a similar job in another office and I wanted to apply for that as well but it disappeared before I had a chance. Boo hoo.

Speaking of J, he is coming over for pizza and beer and forgetfulness on the 25. He called the other night and the following came up in the course of our conversation:

J: "So, uh, what are you doing for Christmas?"
Me: "Celebrating the birth of the lord."
J: <laughter>
Me: "What?"
J: "No, it's just funny to hear you say it like that."
Me: "Do you want to come over for pizza and beer and forget all about Christmas like usual?"
J: "Yeah."

Poor J. I feel bad because he lives by himself in a studio apartment and doesn't really interact with anybody. But at the same time, he just doesn't seem to try to make friends or hang out with the ones he has so I try to be objective and understand that it is not healthy for either one of us for me to be his only friend. That was part of the problem when we were still living together. He was home all the fucking time and didn't speak to anyone other than maybe to teach. So then I'd get home and he'd be ready to interact and I'd be ready to just decompress because I'd been interacting all day. I became his only routine friend, his only outlet, and his only connection with society and it was too much for me.

I'll see him tonight after work. I have to stop by the library (yet again) and that is right down the street from him so I'm going to meet him for a drink. Then I'll get my book, head home, take a nap, and, upon waking, hit the chores hard. So much to vacuum, so much grown up stuff to deal with (rather than ignore), and so much trying to force myself to be an adult. I think I ought to give up on that because I say it all the time. It's like when I say "OK, I am going to be super healthy" and then I devolve into beer and nachos or something similar. If you don't have self discipline and are an adult, there isn't much external motivation to actually behave properly. Or maybe that's just me? I don't know. I don't care. My boss, who is on leave for the rest of the year, just came in and so now I have to look busy. And I get to cover the phones from 4-5. Jealous?

List to a crisp

Burn Baby Burn
Well that was certainly fun. Fuel tanker crashed last night and so the highway situation is, to say the least, not good. And everyone keeps talking about it and comparing their commutes. Some bitch that it happened over ten hours ago as though it is nothing to clean up thousands of gallons of gasoline and make things safe for everyone. So you were late to work, big effing deal. The driver of the tanker died; who had the shittier experience?

Get Off Your Lazy Ass List
I got my lazy list completed yesterday I am pleased to say! Well, the absolutes and the trip to the grocery store, not all the maybes. I now have vacuumed rugs in the living and dining rooms, the surfaces have been organized and de-cluttered, and I picked up all fatty's hay*. And food! I have food! Today's list is a bit trickier because I've decided it's time I start paying KT back for being really nice and generous to me. So I'm going to start cleaning his utility room and I'm going to launder all of the bedding that is, for some reason, on the floor down there. I can't really afford to do anything grandiose, and he wouldn't really like that anyway, but I can clean like a mother fucker and so I shall. So here is today's list:
  1. Straighten up bedroom and sort out clothes for tomorrow.
  2. Begin sorting out KT's utility room.
  3. Read more of book club book.
Not very taxing, I admit. But KT has a roommate and two bachelors do not a tidy home make. And I'm really behind on the book club tip and we meet on Thursday so I need to get my butt in gear. I'm so pleased that I was actually able to accomplish things I put down on a list yesterday that I'm hoping it will carry on throughout the week. I'll keep the lists short, of course, in order to make them doable, but nonetheless, I'm going to give this list business a chance. Here's hoping.

Teeter Totter

Things I should be doing

Cleaning
Writing letters (currently have three outstanding)
Doing laundry
Gym
Changing my sheets
At very least, putting my shoes away
Playing with John
Eating a real meal for dinner

Things I am doing

Watching television
Contemplating a nap
Contemplating a marathon bath
Fucking around on the internet
Having the right thoughts (re: need to be cleaning and changing sheets)
Eat toast with smart balance

Today was stupid and I'm glad I only have one more day at work. Hopefully this nice long break will get me back to my old self. I had a meeting today with the other admins and an ice breaker was "introduce yourself to our new members and tell us the worst job you have ever had." I came very close to saying "this one" but didn't for diplomacy sake.

But tomorrow will be better. I'm being super normal and having dinner and a movie with three chicks from work, two of which I've hung out with socially before. That's a normal person thing to do, right? We are going to see "The Help" because we read it for book club two months ago (or maybe three? I don't know, The Beautiful and Damned took two meetings to get through).

I really should do something with myself tonight but I don't think it is going to happen. I think the bath is going to win out only because a nap would ruin me for tomorrow and today was shitty, in part, because I stayed up until 1 last night watching "Four Brothers." So yeah, bath it is.

I've had better beginnings to my weeks in the past. This one has started off with a forgotten about physician's appointment (including blood draws) and a cranky dick of a boss. Very nice.

The weekend wasn't so hot either, though it wasn't necessarily bad. I just watched a ton of DVDs (Murder, She Wrote, The King's Speech, Unknown, and The Other Guys [for the 700th time]), did chores, stayed up wicked late, and puttered around. Not exactly engaging with life these days, am I? I plan on making much better use of my next weekend, especially as I've taken off Monday and am working from home most of Friday (unless my cranky boss decides there is some reason I need to come into the office after our external meeting). I don't know how I'll spend my time but I definitely think I need to cool things off with the television. We've become clingy towards one another and our relationship just isn't healthy anymore. Perhaps I'll finish The Beautiful and Damned for book club (dude, right? I know, who the fuck reads F. Scott Fitzgerald for a work book club?)

I should probably also go back to the gym since I'm still paying for it. And maybe just take a few walks outside (walking to the store does not count). I'm at risk of becoming a creepy hermit who emerges from her cage only for necessities. I need to take advantage of the nicer weather and longer days (I dig the longer days but it has been so fucking hot and bright that I've been huddling under my covers with the AC on full blast ) before they disappear. I thought about things I need from a partner (god that word is awful) and taking advantage of what life has to offer is on that list. Big, fat, fucking hypocrite I am! So I'm resolved to turn over a new leaf to start embracing life and do stuff. What stuff? I don't know. I can just walk around downtown or drive around to get to know my city better. Anything but another fucking "Toddlers and Tiaras" marathon.

I probably won't embrace life though. I'll probably just creep out of my cave once in awhile, take a few drives, read some books, and then take a nap. But I think I'd still consider that a win.
